Are you a discoverer, a wanderer, a dreamer? If so, you live with the spirit of Zhenya. He is an inspiration to many, for through his youthful explorations in the Russian wilderness, he came upon what would become the largest mammoth discovery in over 100 years. Initially named in Zhenya’s honor by the common people, the local elite have stolen the recognition from this 11 year old boy and renamed the mammoth carcass in their own commercial interests.
This group of artist-explorers is channeling Zhenya to create work that represents their own explorations in their studios. Through diverse media, these 8 graduating BFA students are putting their foot down and proclaiming, “No one will EVER stamp out the spirit of discovery in all of us.”
ZHENYA: the exhibition is an exhibition I organized with my 2012-13 Senior Seminar class – it took place on December 8th, 2012 at 234 Pearl Street, New Albany, Indiana.
Exhibiting Artists: Philip Carlton, Wende Cudmore, Jeremy Dattilo, Miri Fetko, Dani Maudlin, Rebeka Trapp, Kayla Troutman, Amie Villiger
