Gulf Coast Kiln Walk

During the summer of 2005, I was hired to build the first kiln for the Gulf Coast Kiln Walk in Navarre, Florida. I designed a 32′ anagama wood firing kiln based on the Gulf Coast Kiln Walk Society’s specific needs and their desire to have a large kiln that requires a community of artists to come together and work as a group to load and fire. With the help of dozens of artists from the area, we built the entire kiln in just under 2 weeks and in December 2005, I went back to Navarre to run a firing workshop for the inaugural first firing of this kiln. The kiln has been fired many times since and has been producing some great results for the community of ceramic artists in the Navarre/Pensacola area. Many thanks to Brenda, Marty, and Jason Stokes for making this project happen.
